چکیده

Intersymbol interference is an unwanted phenomenon that makes communication less reliable. However, an equalizer can reduce the bad influence of intersymbol interference. In general, my work is to compare different equalizers in various scenarios. In the first part of this paper, I explain the motivation of using equalization in detail, followed by introducing prerequisite knowledge of equalization. Then, I will introduce three main adaptive algorithms, least mean square (LMS), Recursive least square (RLS) and Constant Modulus Algorithms (CMA). Then, various structures of equalizers are depicted as well, including Linear Equalizer, DecisionFeedback Equalizer and Maximum-Likelihood Sequence Estimation. Finally, simulation results are used to compare their performances.

The Role of Regulatory in Price Control and Spectrum Allocation to Competing Wireless Access Networks

With the rapid growth of wireless access networks, various providers offer their services using different technologies such as Wi-Fi, Wimax, 3G, 4G and so on. These networks compete for the scarce wireless spectrum. The spectrum is considered to be a scarce resource moderated by the spectrum allocation regulatory (“regulatory” for short) which is the governance body aiming to maximize the socia...

Practical Chip-level Equalizers in HSDPA

High-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) has been developed to upgrade the current WCDMA system in yerms of providing a higher data rate for mobile users. To ensure a downlink speed of up to 14Mbps, the HSDPA system has three main features: adaptive modulation and coding, a hybrid automatic repeat request, and fast scheduling. Because standard documents describe only the specifications of Node...

On the Practical Aspects of Joint Passive Phase Conjugation and Equalization Underwater Communication Systems

Underwater acoustic communication systems suffer from the channel impairments which results in time spreading of the transmitted signal. In underwater environment, multiple replicas of the transmitted signal are received at the receiver through different paths, which causes significant Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI). Decision Feedback Equalizers (DFE) was utilized to overcome this type of inte...

Pattern-Guided Adaptive Equalizer in 65nm CMOS

The use of adaptive equalizers at the front end of receivers is becoming a necessity as the data rates increase without channel improvements. Adaptive equalizers can be implemented using data-aided or non-data-aided schemes [1], with the latter requiring less area and power. Previous non-data-aided adaptive schemes [2-3] implement an asynchronous analog algorithm where the power spectrum of the...
